“A perpetuating silence about money shaped my early understanding of the financial world….”
No one in my family talked about financial management. My community didn’t model it. Schools didn’t teach it. Financial literacy simply wasn’t part of the conversation, and that silence created vulnerability I didn’t even recognize. By 30, I was a single mother of three. Broke. Bankrupt. Without a car. What looked like failure became the turning point.
I made a decision: the cycle of financial instability would stop with me.
The transformation didn’t begin with money; it began with mindset. I started asking better questions. I studied the systems. I learned the language of finance. I rebuilt from the inside out. And I discovered something powerful: financial literacy isn’t just about numbers. It’s about confidence, dignity, and choice.
That realization shaped my life’s work.
It led me to teach accounting and financial literacy so others could gain clarity earlier than I did. It led me into doctoral research to examine the psychological, cultural, and systemic forces that shape financial behavior. And it led me to co-found SaveCircle, a community-centered savings platform designed to reduce financial stress and help people build stability together.
America is finally recognizing the importance of financial literacy, but too often the awareness comes after debt, after mistakes, after the race has already begun. My mission is to change that timeline. Fueled by determination and guided by faith, I am committed to breaking the silence around money helping individuals build stability, ownership, and generational wealth with strategy and confidence.
